CHALLENGE
A failed scraper bridge at a Waste Water Treatment plant commissioned in 1974. The equipment had been in continuous operation and had never had a major overhaul or refurbishment.

SOLUTION
A joint site inspection with the client concluded that the preferred solution was a complete refurbishment of the bridge and scraper mechanism. Deterioration of the concrete structure was also identified and the client informed, that WGM could carry out repairs using specialist BELZONA concrete repair compound.

A report accompanied by a quotation was forwarded to the client and work commenced on receipt of their instruction and approval of the appropriate Method Statement / Risk Assessments.

CONCRETE REPAIRS
Damaged concrete was scabbled back to a sound surface and repaired using BELZONA 4131 two part polymer. This is a High Performance, non-shrinking, non porous compound designed for the rebuilding and resurfacing of damaged concrete.

Initial set takes place within 2 hours and full load bearing strength is achieved between 1 & 5 days (dependant on ambient temperature).

BRIDGE & SCRAPER REFURBISHMENT
The scraper mechanism & bridge were dismantled on site, removed by crane and transported to WGM's Livingston Service Centre.

A complete refurbishment was undertaken which included new bearings, bushes, motor, lubrication system etc. All metal surfaces were taken back to bare metal using shot blasting and an epoxy paint to BS 18E53 applied.

The unit was transported back to site, reinstalled and fully commissioned within 5 weeks of receiving approval from the client.
