Pumping Station Upgrade

CHALLENGE
WGM were engaged to upgrade a pumping station in Aberdeenshire which supplied raw water to a nearby Water Treatment Works. The pumps were failing to deliver the sufficient flow to satisfy customer demand and WGM were contracted to remove and replace the existing four split case pumps and install an additional fifth pump connected via the existing rising main manifold pipe work. The contract required WGM to maintain a minimum of two fully operational pumps throughout the duration of work and the criticality of the plant meant plant shut downs were limited to a two hour window that had to be kept to a minimum as recovery of the treated water storage took 3 days.

SOLUTION
WGM were also responsible for design and manufacture of new station pipe work, installation of valves, actuators and spindles. Pump plinth modifications, pipe supports and thrust blocks were carried out by a civil contractor with WGM ensuring that all civil interface requirements were communicated well in advance.

The installation was completed on budget, within programme and with no disruption to the public water supply.
